SIBU, Feb 5: The public, especially motorcyclists, should buy or wear helmets approved by Sirim for personal safety, says Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak director Norizan Jili.

He told reporters this during the Road Safety Campaign here today in conjunction with the Sibu 2024 Chinese New Year Celebration.

He pointed out that half-type helmets do not meet safety standards.

“We hope that those who are still using this type will buy those with the Sirim mark,” he stressed.

In another development, Norizan said JPJ enforcement officers are always on the ground to ensure the safety of road users.

“We conduct operations every festive season such as Chinese New Year and so on. Our enforcement always patrols not to issue summonses but to maintain the safety of road users,” he said.

Norizan had also conducted an inspection of express buses at the Sibu Express Bus Terminal along Jalan Pahlawan here today.

According to him, this type of inspection is done every festive season to ensure that every bus is in a safe condition for use. — DayakDaily
