KUCHING: March 8: The road junction at Kpg Mambong, Sarig and Bangau off Jalan Borneo Heights will be be upgraded with a RM1.1 million allocation.

Deputy Minister of Transport I Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said works on the project will start by the middle of next month, and will be completed by the end of the year.

“For this project, which the people in the area have requested, the State government has allocated RM1.1 million to have it done.

“The project will start next month and will take about eight months to complete,” Dr Jerip told reporters today at the earth-breaking ceremony at the project site.

Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, added that the scope of works for the project included the relocation of water pipes and electricity poles.

He also told reporters that two road junctions in the constituency are under review to see whether they needed to be improved.

The two junctions mentioned are at Kpg Segu Bunuk and Kpg Bawang, Git and Grait along Jalan Borneo Heights.

“There are a few road junctions in the area (Mambong constituency) which are quite dangerous where a few accidents have occurred.

“So we want to review this in view of the increasing traffic volume and make recommendations to the relevant authorities because road safety is always our concern, not only in Mambong, but throughout the State,” he stressed.

Present at the programme were Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) from Padawan sub-district office Julius Scott Sapong and officers from the Public Works Department, among others. — DayakDaily
