SIBU, March 8: Community leaders, especially Tuai Rumah in Dudong constituency who did not support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the last State election have been told to close ranks and work with the government of the day.

Speaking to reporters after the presentation of letters of appointment to 69 Tuai Rumah for Dudong consituency, its assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing urged these Tuai Rumah irrespective of their political affiliation to set aside their difference and work with the government.

“There is no denying that there are Tuai Rumah who did not support us during the election. We did not take action against them but are giving them a chance to work together for the development of the constituency,” he said.

He further said that whether they are with the Opposition or from different political platforms, the most important thing is that “they must look after the people and support the government of the day.”

“We want them to work with us. We (will) give them a chance and see how it goes,” he said.

On flood issues here, Tiong said Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is also very concerned.

“The Premier is concerned and will come down to get the agencies involved to sit down for a meeting,” he said.

On the cost of the flood mitigation project, he said if the amount is too large, the project will have to be spread out over a four-year period. — DayakDaily
