KUCHING, Jan 6: A farm road connecting Kpg Biya Jaber and Kpg Abang is now in the midst of the construction and scheduled for completion in September this year.
According to Assistant Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, the road costing RM500, 000 is the project under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), about 3.2km long.
“For this project, it will come in two phases, and for this first phase, it is expected to complete in September this year and I hope that the contractor can complete within the stipulated time.
“And for the second phase, we will start soon after we receive funding,” Dr Jerip told reporters today after performing the earth-breaking ceremony.
Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman said the construction of the project was costly in view that at least 17 culverts were needed.
This, he explained would require more than half of the cost.
“Given such a scenario, the first phase of the project will just be an earthen road, while putting gravel and tar-sealing will come under the second phase,” he stressed.
Dr Jerip thanked the villagers for their consent in giving up their land, pointing out that said the project will provide a great opportunity for the people in both villages to open up their land.
Dr Jerip also said that SK Pangkalan Ampat at Kpg Abang, also in upper Padawan and close to Kpg Biya Jaber will also be connected by road from Kpg Abang main road, costing about RM280, 000.
He pointed out that the Public Works Department (JKR) is in the midst of identifying suitable road alignment, adding that the present location was unsuitable.
“For this project, it will start soon after JKR can identify a new location,” he said, adding that the present location was unsuitable. -DayakDaily
