KUCHING, March 13: The police will implement several road closures and detours to give way for a grand procession in conjunction with Seng Ong Kong deity’s birthday celebration at Hong San Si Temple, Wayang Street, here today.
Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the procession would start at 5pm and is expected to end at 11pm.
“The procession is projected to record attendance of about 3,500 people and would involve about 40 vehicles.
“To ensure that the parade planned by the organiser goes smoothly as planned, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from IPD Kuching will implement a number of road closures and detours around the celebration,” he said in a statement today.
The road closure involves Gambier Road to Main Bazaar Road, Tun Abang Haji Openg Road to Padang Merdeka, and Khoo Hun Yeang Road to Market Road.
For alternative routes, users from Ban Hock Road to Lebuh Wayang Road are advised to go straight into Tunku Abdul Rahman Road or Wawasan Road to avoid congestion at the Main Bazaar Road closure.
Meanwhile, vehicles from Haji Taha Road are advised to make a U-turn at Masjid Bahagian Kuching roundabout to avoid congestion at Gambier Road closure.
Traffic personnel will also be placed at certain locations to control traffic flow. — DayakDaily
