KUCHING, Dec 9: Various roads throughout Kuching city as well as in Petra Jaya and Samariang areas will be partially or fully closed in stages for the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Road Race 1.0 Championship that is set to be flagged off at 6.30am from Kuching Civic Centre.

To ensure the cycling event goes smoothly, DBKU urges the public to adhere to all traffic instructions and enforcement to ensure there will be no traffic obstructions along the race routes.

The closures to be implemented at 7.30am include key traffic light intersections of Jalan Sultan Tengah (Bomba Petra Jaya Station) and Jalan Semariang-Jalan Tan Sri Abang Ikhwan.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah assures the public that affected roads will be reopen promptly upon the completion of the cycling event.

“Ten senior officers and 61 police officers will be mobilised to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety of participants and spectators along the race routes,” he said in a statement yesterday (Dec 8).

Ahsmon advised the public to plan their journeys accordingly, utilise alternative routes, and comply with all instructions from the police during the event.

The DBKU Road Race anticipates 301 participants, commencing at Kuching Civic Centre and concluding at DBKU headquarters in Bukit Siol.

Organised in collaboration with Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA), this event aims to create a platform that promotes Kuching city as an ideal destination for hosting cycling events in Sarawak and Malaysia.

The competition comprises five main categories, including the open category for men aged 18 to 39 covering a distance of 120 kilometres. The ‘Men’s Master A’ category is for participants aged 40 to 49, and the ‘Men’s Master B’ category is for those aged 50 and over, both racing for 120 kilometres.

Additionally, there is a women’s open category for participants aged 13 and above, and a youth category for those under 17, with a race distance of 60 kilometres.

The race route will cover Kuching Civic Centre, Jalan Crookshank, Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui, Jalan Central Timur, Jalan Deshon, Jalan Ban Hock, Sri Aman roundabout, Jalan Abell, Jalan Chan Chin Ann, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Temple Street, Wayang Bazaar, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Satok, Abang Kipali Interchange, Abang Haji Mohammad Zin roundabout, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, Abang Haji Suleiman roundabout, Jalan Stadium roundabout, Jalan Casuarina, Jalan Diplomatik, Sultan Tengah roundabout, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Jalan Lingkaran Samariang, Pasir Pandak junction, FAC Road, Jalan Camar junction, Lorong Matang Jaya, Taman Kopodium, Telaga Air junction, Kuching Polytechnic junction, Rambungan junction, Bandar Baru Samariang junction, Jalan Casuarina, Demak Jaya roundabout, Demak Laut, Jalan Keruing, BCCK, Demak Jaya roundabout, Abang Haji Suleiman roundabout, Sarawak Golf Club, Bomba Petra Jaya Station, Jaland Samariang and DBKU Bukit Siol.
