RMCO violation: 12 detained at karaoke and pub centre

Three women were among the 12 people caught partying at a pub in violation of RMCO.

SIBU, July 2: Three women were among the 12 persons detained for defying the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) at a pub on Wednesday (July 1).

Sibu district deputy police chief, Supt Collin Babat said all the 12, aged between 20 to 59, were later issued RM1,000 fines for the offence.

They will have to settle the compound within 14 days from the date of issuance.


According to Supt Collin, acting on information received, a police MCO enforcement team raided a karaoke and pub at 9.15pm on Wednesday.

“When the police team arrived, all of them were indulging in karaoke singing including drinking liquor in a group,” he said.

In doing so, the group had committed the offence under Section 3 (No.7) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department chief, DSP Ariffin Bahar later issued the compound notice to everyone, he added.—DayakDaily
