SIBU, Nov 28: The government has approved an allocation of RM95 million to construct a 14-kilometre road connecting seven longhouses in Batang Lassa, Daro.
In a news report by TVS, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad emphasised that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to transform the socioeconomic landscape of Daro District through people-centered development projects.
He also announced that a new school will be built to replace SK Batang Lassa, which is facing severe land erosion that poses a risk to the safety and well-being of its students.
“The government has approved an eight-acre site, and the federal government has agreed to allocate funds for the construction of a new school, complete with dormitories and other essential facilities.
“The projected cost for this school is RM65 million, which includes land acquisition and other related expenses. I have been informed that the necessary compensation for the identified land has already been carried out,” he said when officiating at the Personnel Enhancement Programme for Daro District community leaders and Village Development and Security (JKKK) secretaries at Sibu Islamic Complex Hall yesterday (Nov 27).
Safiee further highlighted that the school has been prioritised under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and is set to be implemented in the near future.
“This boarding school will be unique. Once relocated to the new site, electricity supply will be available, and a RM16.5 million water supply project has already been approved and is set to begin next year,” he added.
Additionally, Safiee revealed that another road project, worth RM80 million, has been approved and will also be carried out.
“[It is] at the final stage, the tender evaluation is underway, and God willing, the project will be awarded by early next year for implementation,” he said.
He also mentioned that an 11-kilometre road will be constructed from Nanga Singat to Sungai Lengan, connecting to the Sibu-Tanjung Manis road.
“This will significantly improve the quality of life in the area. The road will pass through agricultural zones, stimulating farming activities and boosting the local economy.
“Previously, the community faced challenges over access to their farmland. This road represents a golden opportunity for the people in this area to leverage for their benefit, aligning with the government’s efforts to uplift their living standards and develop Sarawak into a leading State by 2030,” Safiee added. — DayakDaily
