KUCHING, April 21: The Jalan Sibu-Tanjung Manis road project is scheduled to be tendered this year, says Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, he said that the project, identified as the ‘Proposed Missing Link Road Jin Nanga Bangkit / Muara Lebaan To Jalan Sibu Tanjung Manis’ project, is estimated to cost RM80 million, a significant increase compared to the initial proposal submitted more than a decade ago.
He said the project’s cost has increased several times since the initial request was submitted in 2011.
“The first time I requested this project in 2011, the cost was RM35 million. In 2016, when I requested again, it was within the RM40 million range, and in the 2021 election, I requested again. I was informed that it was around RM55 to RM60 million.
“In 2025, the cost of the project has reached RM80 million, and this surprised me when the cost has multiplied,” he said at the Semop Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri programme held at the Kampung Tanjong Bundong Community Hall on Sunday (April 21).
However, despite the significant increase, he expressed gratitude towards the government for covering the project’s expenses and hoped that it could start before year-end.
Meanwhile, Abdullah, who is also the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), announced several other projects, namely the Tanjong Bundong Hall awning project with a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM60,796 and the Kampung Tanjong Bundong Road upgrade project worth RM58,620, which the Meradong Julau District Council will implement.
All allocations for both projects were channelled in February this year and are expected to commence soon. — DayakDaily
