RM773 mln in People’s Projects approved for Sarikei Division

KUCHING, June 23: A total of 77 projects worth about RM773 million have been approved for Sarikei Division.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg this morning chaired the 10th State Development Coordination Committee meeting on People’s Projects (Projek Rakyat) at the Sarikei Innovation Centre, in Sarikei to get updates and an overview of these projects’ progress.


The meeting, according to a media release, was to get feedback and reports from various implementing agencies, especially in Sarikei division.

Additionally, the meeting also aimed to identify problems faced by agencies and contractors in implementing the projects.

The projects consisted of 33 People’s Projects amounting to RM493 million and 44 projects totaling RM280 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) which are in various stages of implementation.

The projects are focused on rural infrastructure to enhance connectivity, basic utilities as well as services for the people.

Afterwards, Abang Johari visited the Sarikei Integrated Administration Centre project site and is also expected to inspect the Village Expansion Scheme site.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Abdullah Saidol were among those present. — DayakDaily
