KAPIT, Aug 23: The 35-door Rumah Samiggat Ulu Lajan in Song district has now been successfully connected with electricity supply through the implementation of the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES), at a total cost of RM7.7 million.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi inaugurated the completed power supply project at the longhouse, located about six kilometre from Song-Kapit Road, yesterday (Aug 22).
Julaihi expressed satisfaction in witnessing the joyous expressions on the faces of Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, Tuai Rumah Samiggat and the local villagers.
“Not far from the longhouse, a telecommunication tower is being built under the Jendela programme.
“This tower is expected to be operational and on air in June next year,” he shared in a post on his social media page today.
At the event, Julaihi also approved a grant for Rumah Saminggat Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to further enhance the overall progress and welfare of the community.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office for Native Law and Customs Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Sarawak Energy Berhad vice president for RES Dr Chen Shiun and Song District officer Harry Bruce Edwin were present. — DayakDaily
