DARO, Nov 7: The Muara Lassa Bridge, spanning 2.43 kilometers and costing over RM597 million, is expected to be completed by January 19, 2025.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the project, now at 96 per cent completion, began on March 22, 2019, and aims to bring a new level of mobility and economic growth to the area when it opens early next year.

“The Muara Lassa Bridge is not just a facility; it’s a symbol of strategic development that will strengthen rural access and stimulate the local economy,” he was quoted saying after the final stitching ceremony at the project site today.

The Muara Lassa Bridge, dubbed as the second-longest bridge in Sarawak, will link mainland Daro with Pulau Bruit, replacing the ferry service that has long served as the main transportation mode for the area.

The new bridge is expected to shorten residents’ daily travel times, facilitate economic activities, and create new income opportunities, particularly in the agriculture, fishing, and tourism sectors.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) acting director Wisil Lichok, and Mukah Division Deputy Resident Shafrie Saili. — DayakDaily
