RM561K in contraband cigarettes confiscated

The smuggled cigarettes were brought to PGA before being passed to Padawan Police station.

KUCHING, July 7: General Operation Force (PGA) Sarawak confiscated a total of RM561,674 worth of smuggled cigarettes during two raids which carried out on July 7, 2020.

“The first raid was held at 8.30am when the team raided a premise at Jalan Desa Wira, Kuching. A total of 2,886 cartons of smuggled cigarettes were found at the premise,” Commander of PGA Sarawak, SAC Mancha Ata said in a press release.


According to Mancha, a 41-year-old male suspect was also arrested in connection with the contraband cigarettes.

“The second raid was held at 12.30pm the same day, where the team raided another premise which was selling smuggled cigarettes. A total of 919 cartons of cigarettes were found on the premises,” Mancha said, adding that a 52-year-old male suspect was arrested.

“The two suspects and the items had been handed over to the Padawan Police station and they will be investigated under Section 135(1)(D) Customs Act 1967,” Mancha stated.
