RM50 mln proposal to upgrade Balai Ringin underway, rep eyes elevation to full district

KUCHING, March 12: A proposal to upgrade the Balai Ringin township with an estimated cost of RM50 million is underway.

In revealing this, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said this includes beautification works and noted the intention to elevate Balai Ringin into a full district.

“The population in the Balai Ringin area has increased, and currently there are 96 longhouses,” he said after officiating at a ‘leader the people session’ at Kampung Tapang Lebat yesterday (March 11).

Meanwhile, Snowdan, who is the assemblyman for Balai Ringin, shared through a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) that a project for a new community hall for Kampung Tapang Lebat costing RM370,000 with two phases has already been completed.

He also revealed that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) had allocated RM100 million for the first package to connect and supply fresh water from Balai Ringin town to Kampung Telagus.

“The tender for the project would be open in June 2023,” he said.

In the same programme, he handed over a cheque of RM5,000 to the chairperson of the Balai Ringin Clinic panel, Normala Sobeng. — DayakDaily
