KUCHING, June 7: The RM5.68 million construction of the multipurpose hall at the Sarawak branch of the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA), launched in December 2023, is trailing behind schedule with only 60 per cent of physical progress achieved—well below the 83 per cent target.

This delay underscores the need for closer monitoring to ensure timely completion of the project.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, recently conducted a working visit to assess the current progress of the project, which is expected to be completed by 19 August 2026.

During the visit, she was briefed on the project’s status and discussed any challenges encountered on-site.

The project, overseen by the Special Project Team 2 of the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, is being executed by contractor Mindagang Resources Sdn Bhd.

The project’s extensive scope includes the construction of the main hall structure, as well as public facilities such as badminton courts, male and female prayer rooms, changing rooms, foyer, ablution areas, accessible toilets, a stage, switch room, and an audiovisual (AV) room.

Despite the delays, Rubiah emphasised that the Ministry remains committed to delivering high-quality rural infrastructure that benefits local communities.

“We want every ringgit spent to benefit the people directly—not merely through physical structures, but by creating a space that is conducive and inclusive for rural community growth,” she said.

With just over a year remaining until the projected completion date, intensified monitoring efforts are expected to get the project back on track and avoid further setbacks. — DayakDaily
