KUCHING, March 14: The RM489.49 million Teaching Hospital and Prima Health Centre (PKP) project at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has achieved 75.65 per cent physical progress as of Feb 25, 2026.
Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project represents one of Malaysia government’s key initiatives to strengthen healthcare facilities while supporting the development of medical education in Sarawak.
“The project is being implemented by the Public Works Department Malaysia (JKR) through its Special Project Team 2 using the design-and-build method,” he said in a post shared on his social media following a site visit to the project today.
During the visit, Nanta received a briefing on the latest progress and inspected several major components of the development, including the main hospital building, the Prima Health Centre, specialist clinic facilities and the emergency department.
He also viewed supporting facilities within the project site, including parking areas, therapeutic landscape zones and other supporting infrastructure.
“The government remains committed to ensuring the project is completed according to the set schedule so that the facility can benefit the public and serve as a high-quality medical training centre in Sarawak,” he affirmed.
He also stressed the importance of strong coordination among all parties involved in the project to ensure that any implementation issues are addressed proactively.
Once completed, the hospital is expected to enhance access to healthcare services in the state while strengthening the development of local medical talent, particularly through its role as a teaching hospital for Unimas. — DayakDaily
