SARIKEI, Dec 18: As of November 2024, the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Longhouse Loan Scheme (PKPRP) has disbursed RM31.84 million to 70 longhouses, with RM4.024 million in outstanding loans and a 12.64 per cent arrears rate.

Balingian assemblyman and HDC Chairman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, called on residents under the scheme to fulfill their repayment obligations to maintain the programme’s sustainability and benefit future applicants as the scheme operates as a rolling fund.

“Repayment of the loan scheme is not just an individual obligation but a collective trust. Failure to fulfill this responsibility risks jeopardising opportunities for future generations to access the same benefits,” he said.

He made these remarks during a Randau session with elected representatives and Tuai Rumah (longhouse chiefs) at the Sarawak Government Administrative Centre on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Abdul Yakub highlighted that the scheme operates as a rolling fund, with loan repayments playing a vital role in enabling funding for new applicants.

“Delays or failure in repayments disrupt the fund and could hinder future borrowers from receiving timely assistance,” he added.

To address the arrears, HDC is seeking the active participation of elected representatives and Tuai Rumah to engage borrowers and encourage timely repayments.
