RM27 million Bario airport project to be tendered soon, says DPM Fadillah

BARIO, July 28: The Bario Stolport runway extension project is currently in its final stages before tendering, says Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Fadillah said the federal government has set aside an allocation of RM27 million for extension works to increase the number of visitors to Bario.

Apart from the air transport, he said the Highland Development Agency (HDA) has been tasked to upgrade village roads to improve road connectivity for the Bario sub-district.

He said this when delivering his speech at the closing ceremony of Pesta Nukenen Bario (Bario Food Festival) 2024, held at Dataran Bario yesterday (July 27).

To support the Pesta Nukenen programme, a contribution of RM50,000 was given to the organisers to ensure the event can continue to be held regularly.

Also present at the event were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala; Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau; Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin; Sarawak Kelabit Association chairman and Pesta Nukenen Bario 2024 chairperson Dato Dr Philip Raja; and political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dominic Nyurang. — DayakDaily
