KUCHING, Oct 13: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) in the Sarawak Premier’s office has allocated a sum of RM24.643 million to finance 86 projects under its Phase 1 grants distribution this year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is in charge of the unit said these projects included the construction, renovation and upgrading of various houses of worship, multipurpose halls and other facilities of mass gathering.

He said this after presenting cheques for 76 such projects costing RM19 million here today.

Among those receiving them on behalf of their beneficiaries were Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Education, Innovations and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee and Deputy Ministers Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Dato Gerald Rentap, Datu Dr Penguang Manggil and other assemblymen or their representatives.

Uggah said the presentation proved that Unifor is functioning very well and much relevant and needed to assist all the non-Islamic religions in Sarawak.

Similarly to 2021, the Sarawak government has approved RM50 million to allow Unifor to carry out its noble objectives.

He advised all religious organisations which had the grants from Unifor to closely monitor the implementation of their respective projects.

“When these projects are done well and delivered on schedule, they would benefit the people greatly in practising their religious beliefs and obligations,” said Uggah who is also Infrastructure and Port Development Minister.

He said the next distribution of grants was expected to be held later this year. — DayakDaily
