SERIAN, April 3: The RM23.89 million Serian Health Clinic (KK3) was officially handed over by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak to the Sarawak Health Department today in a formal ceremony, marking the completion of the long-awaited healthcare facility under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
In a press statement today, JKR Sarawak emphasised that the key handover served as the initial step before the official project handover and acceptance ceremony, allowing health authorities to access the facility for final preparations, including cleaning, equipment installation, and operational setup.

With the new facility, residents in Serian will no longer need to travel long distances for medical treatment, easing the burden on other healthcare centres in the region.
The government hopes the clinic will provide more efficient and high-quality healthcare services, strengthening the public healthcare system and ensuring equitable access to medical care.
Construction of the clinic began on April 2, 2020, and was completed on Jan 10, 2025. The project includes a main clinic block (Type 3), a two-storey staff quarters block, a storage unit, a pump house, an ambulance garage, an MSB & Genset House, a guardhouse, and a dedicated parking area.

The Serian Health Clinic is the first integrated healthcare facility in the Serian Division, offering a range of medical services under one roof, including a Maternal and Child Health Unit, Outpatient Department, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Emergency Unit, Radiology Unit, and Dental Clinic.
Notably, the clinic is equipped with two specialised medical devices rarely found in government clinics in the division—an advanced Canon-brand X-ray machine from Japan and a Specialist Dental Chair imported from Italy under the Castellini brand.
The X-ray machine will enable medical officers to diagnose conditions such as pneumonia and bone fractures, while the Specialist Dental Chair features an intraoral camera, monitor, and electrocautery set for more precise dental procedures.
The handover ceremony was attended by Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, acting director of JKR Sarawak Ts Meehan Jorai, Sarawak Health Department director Dr Veronica Lugah, Serian Division Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph, acting Serian District Officer Natasha Tiong Nulie, and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
