KUCHING, Nov 23: The new access road connecting the Jalan Stapok Utama traffic light junction (near Chung Hua Primary School No. 6) to the Ensing residential area (near Stapok Badminton Court) is now officially open.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, in officiating the opening ceremony, emphasised the Sarawak government’s commitment to addressing traffic congestion caused by rapid urban growth.
“I am pleased that this project progressed smoothly from planning to tender, construction, and completion. The contractor has shown exemplary responsibility, which aligns with the Sarawak government’s aim of ensuring timely project delivery while minimising public inconvenience,” he said in a statement.
Dr Sim, who is also the Batu Kawah assemblyman, acknowledged that traffic congestion remains a challenge in rapidly developing areas.
However, he assured residents that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is dedicated to building alternative routes to alleviate the issue.
He cited the success of similar projects, such as the Khong Thiong Garden-Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong route, which significantly improved traffic flow.
Future infrastructure initiatives include the planned Batu Kawa Second Bridge and additional roads under the State’s development agenda to enhance connectivity and reduce bottlenecks.
The newly completed Jalan Stapok Utama-Ensing Garden road spans 285 metres and costs RM2,023,919, fully funded by the Sarawak government. It is expected to ease the heavy traffic flow in the area.
Dr Sim highlighted that this project was realised through the feedback and suggestions of residents. In response to their concerns, he secured funding to create a more accessible route connecting residential areas to main roads. — DayakDaily
