KUCHING, May 6: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) seized RM2.5 million worth of bird nests from four premises in Sibu on May 3.
According to SFC in a Facebook post yesterday (May 15), the premises were also found to be operating without permit and purchasing bird nests from illegal sources.
“From our initial investigation, it was found out that there is evidence that the bird nests were exported without a permit from the Controller. All suspects were arrested at their respective premises,” it said.
During the joint operation involving SFC Sibu team and the Marine Police Force of Zone 5 Sibu, a total of 882.657kg of bird nests were seized and four suspects were also detained for further investigation.
SFC also called on members of the public to relay any information regarding illegal wildlife activities to SFC hotlines at Kuching (019-8859996), Sibu (019-8883561), Bintulu (019-8332737), or Miri (019-8290994). — DayakDaily
