SIBU, July 17: A total of RM2.5 million has been allocated to repair the homes of families in the B40 group in the Pelawan constituency from 2022 to July 2024.

This initiative has benefited 169 houses under the Minor Rural Project-Repairs and Rebuilding (MRP-PPRMS).

Under this state-funded programme, each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblyman is given RM1 million annually for this purpose.

“Those in the B40 group in the Pelawan area who need assistance can contact my service centre. We may not be able to visit your house immediately, but we will put you on the waiting list as we need to address other cases first,” said Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang.

Speaking to reporters during a site visit to four houses in Lane 3, Jalan Indah today, Tiang mentioned that the funds would be used solely for minor work such as roof and kitchen repairs.

“Every year, we manage to fix more than 60 houses of needy families who can’t afford to repair basic issues like leaking roofs. We thank the Sarawak Premier for providing the RM1 million for the programme,” said Tiang, who is also the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.

A breakdown of the expenses saw RM999,690 spent on 68 units in 2022, RM996,150 on 67 units in 2023, and RM506,250 on 34 units in Phase One of 2024. — DayakDaily
