RM150 million approved to construct new Kapit police headquarters

KUCHING, Nov 20: Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has approved RM150 million to construct the new Kapit police headquarters (IPD).

According to Saifuddin, the allocation also includes acquiring a site to house the Kapit IPD located at Jalan Bleteh in Kapit which the State government will manage, Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) reported.

“KDN (Ministry of Home Affairs) has sent the application to the State government through the Federal land commissioner.

“I also (sent a) request (to) my friend Datuk Alex (Works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) to follow up with the State government,” he said, as quoted by Ukas.

Saifuddin was conducting a working visit to the ‘Implementation of the Special Task Force (PPK) to Address the Issue of Sarawakian Residents Without Identification in Kapit District’ event at Rumah Rantai, Semunte Baleh on Sunday (Nov 19).

Furthermore, he reminded the community to be responsible by registering marriages and births.

In this regard, the Home Minister remarked that the Sarawak government will support efforts to obtain documents to help the people to facilitate operations.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi expressed his appreciation to Saifuddin for being able to attend to the people’s mandate, especially concerning the issue of identity card ownership.

Earlier, Saifuddin while accompanied by Nanta, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs, and Special Duties) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, visited IPD Kapit.

During the visit, the IPD had time to give some suggestions for a suitable new site and hoped that Saifuddin would agree to the application since the IPD was dilapidated and no longer eligible for use.
