KUCHING, May 14: A RM100 million redevelopment project, with a ceiling expenditure of RM5 million, has been approved to address ongoing erosion and flooding issues in Kampung Baru, Kapit.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), this project aims to relocate residents from high-risk areas to new settlements that are safer, more orderly, and comfortable.
The project will be implemented in phases under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
The first phase (12MP) this year includes the preparation of documents for the approval of the layout plan by the State Planning Authority (SPA) and the acquisition of land belonging to the Sarawak Islamic Council if required.
The second phase (13MP) will involve the acquisition of land in the affected areas as well as the implementation of infrastructure and construction works.
The estimated funding for the entire project is RM30 million for infrastructure, RM31 million for construction, and RM6 million for land acquisition.
Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki visited the proposed project site yesterday at Lot 2559, Block Kapit Menuan Land District.
He was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Law and Custom) and Bukit Goram Assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Pelagus Assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Katibas Assemblyman Lidam Assam, Baleh Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai, and Kapit Division Resident Elvis Didit. – DayakDaily
