KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak government has set aside RM1 billion to construct the state-of-the-art Cancer Centre, with RM5 million designated for preliminary works beginning in 2025.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the construction cost of the centre will be funded by the Sarawak government in advance and will be reimbursed by the federal government later.
“Sarawak is in dire need of a cancer centre as the number of patients affected by the disease has significantly increased.
“The centre would provide comprehensive cancer care by offering a wide range of treatment services, including stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy,” he said when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2025 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
Additionally, it will serve as a hub for advance cancer research and training, fostering innovation in treatment methods and supporting the development of skilled healthcare professionals. — DayakDaily
