Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing disclosed that the scope of works will include road elevation (topping up), widening, adding road shoulders, and premix surfacing.
“The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once completed, it will significantly improve the road conditions, help alleviate the impact of flooding, and ensure safer and more convenient travel for residents,” he said in a statement today.
During the rainy season and when high tides hit the Rajang River, Tiong, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, noted that the low-lying areas of Sibu, including Kampung Kedada, often face severe flooding that disrupts traffic and brings hardship to residents.
“Villagers rely on stilt houses and wooden bridges, but many of these bridges are old and need repairs. Some roads are also narrow and have deteriorated, thus further reduce accessibility and pose safety hazards to users,” he explained.
With his persistent appeals over the years had finally yielded approval, Tiong has directed his Service Centre staff to liaise closely with the relevant agencies to monitor the progress of works.
“I will continue to oversee and push for the successful completion of the project, so that the residents of Kampung Kedada can finally be freed from the difficulties they have endured for so long,” he said. — DayakDaily
