KUCHING, May 15: Newly appointed special envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem vows to carry out his duties with his utmost ability and responsibility.

He believed that his past experience as Deputy Foreign Minister and later as Minister of Human Resources will assist him in discharging his duties effectively.

“I have just received the letter of appointment from the Prime Minister just a short while ago.

“With this letter of appointment, I would like to record my sincere thanks to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his trust and confidence in me.

“The appointment is also his recognition of the Dayak community as a whole especially to our Bidayuh community in particular,” Riot told DayakDaily.

The letter from Muhyiddin confirmed earlier report that he has been appointed through a two-paragraph letter from Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, the Prime Minister’s Chief Private Secretary, dated May 6, which has been duly acknowledged receipt by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party President Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Riot, 68, is a seventh-term Serian MP since 1990 and was Minister of Human Resources from 2013 to 2018. Prior to that, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Following the appointment, Riot is accorded full ministerial status.— DayakDaily
