KUCHING, July 6: The renewed masterplan for Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-Mega) is expected to be ready by end of August 2022.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Len Talif Salleh noted that the new masterplan will resonate with previous developments planned for Tanjung Manis with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) for the development of identified economic sectors in the area.
Eventually, Tanjung Manis will become the gateway for imports for Sarawak’s central region covering from the whole of Rajang basin to Kapit and other areas.
“While they look at Tanjung Manis as an (economic) area, they also have to relook at the overall hinterland of Tanjung Manis.
“Say that some manufacturing (activity) has never been done (in Tanjung Manis) related to fish-based, they can develop there. But for livestock, they can go to Julau or Pakan.
“We will also see how this (Tanjung Manis Masterplan Lab) will be integrated with the labs held in Mukah and Sarikei as an overall plan for the whole area,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after officiating at the opening ceremony of “Tanjung Manis Masterplan Lab Series III: Strategic Actions and Development Programs to Facilitate Investments in Tanjung Manis” held at Waterfront Hotel here today.
Commencing from today until Friday (July 6 to 8), the lab is organised by State Planning Authority (SPA) with the assistance of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) as the appointed Secretariat and it will be facilitated by HAPM Consultant Sdn Bhd.
The lab aims to have comprehensive and inclusive engagement and syndication sessions with stakeholders and relevant parties to come up with an updated, comprehensive and inclusive revised T-Mega Masterplan.
The proposed revised T-Mega Masterplan will be tabled before the STIDC Board Of Directors before submission to SPA for approval by end of August 2022.
The approved and updated T-Mega Masterplan will serve as a guide for a complementing development effort by various agencies within T-Mega which resonates with the overall infrastructure development plan by Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) and the State government.
Amongst those present were Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources (MUDeNR) advisor Datu Sajeli Kipli, MUDeNR acting permanent secretary Hairani Mohamad Ismail, STIDC deputy general manager Haluyah Awi and MUDeNR Planning Division head Wan Sufian Wan Mustapa. — DayakDaily
