Returnees from Qatar, Spain among 661 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak

KUCHING, June 20: Two returnees from Qatar and one from Spain comprised three out of 661 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said these three Import-A cases tested positive for the virus without developing any symptoms.


There were also seven asymptomatic Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.

The remaining 651 cases comprised 385 cases detected via close contact screenings, 158 via individual screenings from active clusters, 59 via other screenings at health facilities and 49 via symptomatic screenings in health facilities.

In terms of districts, Sibu recorded the highest total at 134 cases, followed by Kuching (88), Bintulu (72), Subis (52) and Miri (43), making 389 cases in total or 58.85 per cent of total cases of the day.

Other districts with new infections are Mukah (31), Sri Aman (31), Julau (29), Tatau (26), Samarahan (23), Kapit (20), Bau (19), Serian (15), Meradong (14), Sarikei (12), Song (10), Selangau (9), Kanowit (8), Simunjan (5), Sebauh (5), Lundu (3), Pusa (3), Asajaya (2), Bukit Mabong (2), Telang Usan (1), Tebedu (1), Tanjung Manis (1), Saratok (1) and Dalat (1).

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak since the outbreak began in March 2020 now stands at 59,800.

Meanwhile, SDMC, in its Covid-19 update today, also reported two new deaths from Covid-19, thus increasing the State’s death toll to 380.

Fatality case number 379 was a 47-year-old female from Marudi while case number 380 involved a 38-year-old female from Sibu. Both of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 485 new recoveries reported throughout Sarawak today, there are still 10,120 active cases receiving treatment in various hospitals across Sarawak.

In terms of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 32 red zones, one orange, five yellow and two green zones. Limbang and Daro are the only two green zones in Sarawak. ā€” DayakDaily
