Restaurant and electronics factory in Kuching spark two new workplace clusters with 26 cases

KUCHING, June 20: A restaurant premises in Jalan Tabuan Tranquility and an electronics factory in Jalan Usaha Jaya have sparked two new Covid-19 workplace clusters in Kuching.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily statement today, the Jalan Tabuan Tranquility Cluster stemmed from social movement and close contact among the restaurant workers.


“A total of 42 individuals have been screened whereby 13 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 29 were negative,” the Committee said.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Usaha Jaya Cluster broke out among the factory workers who are residing in the workers’ hostel.

A total of 170 individuals have been screened whereby 13 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 121 were negative and 36 are still awaiting test results.

SDMC also informed that Kuching reported one new community cluster in Kampung Taba Sait, Bengoh Resettlement Scheme.

“The Kampung Taba Sait Cluster was detected among local residents through social movement and close contact.

“A total of 31 individuals have been screened whereby 10 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 11 were negative and 10 are still awaiting test results,” it added.

All positive cases from the new clusters were referred and admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

With the addition of the three clusters, there are 23 active clusters in Kuching at present.

Apart from the three clusters, SDMC today also announced a new cluster in Miri involving a workers’ quarters located at Lorong Perlis Empat.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of four clusters namely, Jalan Stadium Negeri Cluster, Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster and Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster in Kuching as well as Sungai Majau Cluster in Kanowit.

At present, there are 95 active clusters in the State with 14 of them recording an increase of 158 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
