Returnee from Sabah tests positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, Dec 18: A local man who returned from Sabah was the sole imported Covid-19 case recorded in Kuching today.

This thus increased the state tally of positive cases to 1,085.


State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today disclosed that the Case 1,085 entered Sarawak on Dec 7 and was immediately put under mandatory 14-days quarantine at a centre in Kuching.

He underwent Covid-19 screening on Dec 7 in which the result was negative. However, the second swab test on Dec 16 was positive.

The case was asymptomatic and is now isolated and warded in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Contact tracing for the case is actively being carried out currently.

Meanwhile, no recoveries were recorded today and as such the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak maintained at 1,050 or 96.77 per cent of total positive cases so far.

With the latest new case, a total of 16 patients are now receiving treatment in hospitals in the state with 13 in SGH, two in Sibu Hospital and one in Bintulu Hospital.

There is only one cluster remaining active in Kuching namely the Besi Cluster with 12 cases.

Sibu and Serian remained as yellow zones with a total of two local cases reported in the last 14 days.

Sarawak also recorded 20 more persons-under-investigation (PUI) with no cases pending laboratory test results.

There were also 322 more persons-under-surveillance (PUS) registered into identified hotels to undergo quarantine.

As of today, there were a total number of 3,805 individuals undergoing quarantine in 42 hotels and quarantine facilities throughout the state. — DayakDaily
