KUCHING, Jan 20: Temenggong Lu Kim Yong passed away in Kuala Lumpur last night at the age of 74.
Lu, who was an active philanthropist and Chinese leader, was last seen delivering a public address at a public function in August at the swearing-in of committee members, and women and youth leaders of a local Buddhist association.
During his speech, he admitted that he had been receiving medical treatment overseas but did not disclose further details.
As a Chinese community leader, Lu was active in associations and guilds.
Among the posts he held were the president of the Federation of United Chinese Associations, Samarahan and Kuching Divisions; secretary-general of the Management of Committee for Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3 and 4; and vice-president of Kuching Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Lu was also a successful businessman where he was the chairman of Ghee Yong Holdings Sdn Bhd and other Ghee Yong subsidiaries.
A wake will be held in Kuala Lumpur today and his body will be cremated on Sunday, 10am. — DayakDaily
