Residents urged to be cautious following landslide at Rh Lempaong Spak, Betong

The landslide occurred following heavy rain.

BETONG, March 8: A landslide caused minor damage to Rh Lempaong Spak at Jalan Ulu Layar here.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Department (Bomba) zone two chief PgB Ramlan Marajan disclosed that the back portion of the longhouse gave way to the landslide which occurred following heavy rain this morning.

There were no injuries or casualties reported.


A team of firefighters were deployed to the longhouse after the department received information from the district disaster committee at 10.50am.

The longhouse, located some 52km from the fire station, has 12 ‘pintu’.

Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered the landslide was about two feet away from the longhouse’s kitchen area.

Although there was no major damage nor evacuation operations involved, firefighters advised the villagers to remain vigilant in the event of continuous rain. — DayakDaily
