KUCHING, June 29: Sarawak is home to a unique and harmonious blend of communities, and public institutions must reflect this multicultural identity in both principle and practice as representation matters.

In a statement, Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) permanent chairman Dr John Brian Anthony echoed similar sentiments to those of activist Peter John Jaban’s criticism over the recent board appointments of Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd, citing its lack of diversity and inclusiveness.

“In a State as rich in cultural and ethnic plurality as Sarawak, such a composition is not only disappointing but also deeply inappropriate.

“I believe that any appointment to government-linked companies (GLCs) must be inclusive, merit-based, and representative of Sarawak’s true demographic composition. Failure to do so risks deepening ethnic and religious divides and erodes public trust in government-linked institutions,” he said.

Therefore, he called on the Sarawak government to do the following:

  • Review and rebalance the board composition of Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd.
  • Establish transparent criteria for appointments to ensure diversity, accountability, and public confidence.
  • Engage all communities in policy and decision-making processes, especially when it concerns essential public services such as water.

“We will continue to speak out in defence of fair representation and uphold the principles of justice and equality for all Sarawakians, regardless of race or religion.

“Let Sarawak set the standard for inclusive governance in Malaysia,” he said. — DayakDaily
