KUCHING, Aug 12: A confidence vote motion will be tabled on Sept 7, the following day after Parliament reconvenes on Sept 6 for the fourth term of the year.

According to MalayMail.com, Communications and Multimedia Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah had in a virtual news conference said the notice of motion had been issued.

The agenda on the first day of this parliament meet will only involve a royal address.

The session will resume the next day.

The legitimacy of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been in question following dwindling support from component parties.

To silence his critics, Muhyiddin had on Aug 4 announced on a special live telecast that a confidence motion will be tabled to determine whether or not he still holds simple majority support in the Lower House.

Muhyiddin who is also PN chairman had informed the nation publicly that this had to be done as he had received a letter from the King stating that eight Umno MPs had written to the parliamentary Speaker indicating their withdrawal of support for him. — DayakDaily
