KUCHING, Nov 6: Repok incumbent Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii has urged the people of Sibu, particularly its businessmen and professionals, to join forces with the authorities to elevate Sibu to city status by 2031.

He was referring to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent announcement at an official event that a few big projects are in the pipeline for Sibu in its bid to achieve city status by 2031.

“I foresee that there will be enormous opportunities for Sibu businessmen to participate in the development of the town in the next decade.

“Therefore, we must heed the advice of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who recently appealed to the people of Sibu to stay united and work hard to achieve city status in 10 years’ time,” he said when launching Bep Capital Sdn Bhd (Bep) today.

At the same time, Huang commended Bep executive director Stephen Wong Kie Yong for his dedication to continue serving the people of Sibu following his retirement as the vice president of RHB Bank Bhd in January this year.

Wong, who was also former Head of RHB Bank Bhd East Malaysia Auto Division, has a total of 37 years’ experiences in banking, finance and investment.

Meanwhile, Wong said he hoped that Bep would be a platform for him to contribute towards the development of Sibu.

Wong added that Bep is strategically located at the CBD area where many other banks and financial institutions are located.

He said Bep is dealing with hire purchase, loans and insurance services specialising in saloon cars, commercial vehicles, machineries and equipment as well as a mixture of other financing to suit the clients’ requirements.
