KUCHING, March 2: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan says the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA 1974) should be repealed through parliamentary action rather than legal challenges.

He dismissed suggestions to challenge the PDA 1974 in court, arguing that it is a politically and economically sensitive issue that judges are unlikely to rule against.

“PDA 1974 was passed by the federal Parliament and it should be repealed by Parliament so that oil and gas resources could be returned to Sarawak and Sabah.

“It is the only avenue that is most suitable to clean the mess around with never-ending politicking over the matter.

“DAP and PKR are alliances in Pakatan Harapan, and they are the backbone of the MANDANI government. They should seek to repeal PDA 1974 in parliament,” he said in a statement today.

“SUPP, PBB, PDP and PRS are in the GPS government should not shout from the sidelines to get PDA 1974 be brought to court instead to parliament and to have the PDA 1974 repealed.

“GPS being the government of Sarawak of the day has the locus standi to bring the matter to parliament to have PDA 1974 repealed,” he added.

He said this in response to reports of SUPP’s Kuching Branch Youth publicity secretary Hilary Lim challenging DAP Sarawak’s Chong Chieng Jen to bring the PDA 1974 to court on the issue of its constitutionality. – DayakDaily
