REPOK, March 23: Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii is urging the authorities to repair the road from Jakar to Jalan Kiew Mang, which has stagnant water problems, immediately to prevent the occurrence of landslides.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Huang stated that the problem affecting the Pan Borneo Highway project site has been going on for two years now due to sewer blockage.

He explained that he contacted PPESW BPSB JV Sdn Bhd two years ago, immediately after receiving complaints from the public.

“The issue must be addressed immediately because I am concerned that stagnant water flowing onto the road will cause the soil at the bottom to soften, resulting in landslides,” he said.

He discovered the road while visiting it on Wednesday, emphasising that it is the main route of the Pan Borneo Highway and is used by vehicles from Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and other locations.

Huang pointed out that if it is not maintained immediately, the problem will have serious consequences.

According to reports, Ishak Awang, the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway’s construction manager, has promised that repair work will begin in May.

Additionally, Huang paid a previous visit to Terminal Dua Sarikei to inspect the RC Costal Wharf in Sungai Nyelong.

He was briefed on the pier’s condition, which had sustained significant damage at 75 per cent of its capacity and was not economically viable to maintain again.

In this regard, he has proposed that a new wharf be constructed rather than repairing the existing one for future use in unloading building materials.
