Remand extended for babysitter suspected of toddler abuse

The suspect attempts to hide her face from the press.

KUCHING, Nov 2: A babysitter who is suspected of abusing a 14-month-old toddler under her care was remanded by the police for another four days yesterday to facilitate the police investigation.

The first remand order of the suspect expired yesterday.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested by police on Oct 27, at 2pm at a rented room in MJC Batu Kawa after the mother of the victim made a police report on Oct 25.


According to the mother, she received a message from the suspect on Oct 25 at 8am which said the toddler was crying non-stop and the toddler’s face was pale.

The mother rushed to the babysitter’s house and found that her toddler unconcious so she rushed the toddler to Sarawak General Hospital.

There, the toddler was found to be in critical condition as she had not been eating and drinking for almost three weeks, as well as suffering from seizures and a bacterial infection in her lungs. Bruises were found on the girl’s head.
