KUCHING, Sept 21: A 41-year-old local man has been sentenced to eight months in prison and ordered to pay a RM3,000 fine after police found hundreds of child pornography images on his computer.
Police acted on a tip-off from the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) unit at Bukit Aman, which was passed to a senior officer who later lodged the complaint.
Officers raided a house in Taman Malihah at around 12.30pm on September 15, where a search of the accused’s computer turned up 388 images of child pornography.
The man was arrested at the scene. Police confiscated a computer, a tablet, a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, and a Wi-Fi modem set as evidence. Investigators concluded that he had been knowingly storing the material.
He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 with possessing child pornography on a laptop.
Appearing today before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali, he pleaded guilty to the single charge.
Besides the jail term and fine, the magistrate ruled that he must serve another three months in prison if he does not pay the fine.
Once released, he will remain under police supervision for a year.
