KUCHING, June 29: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos states that the remaining two traffic light projects along Kuching-Samarahan Expressway have been slightly delayed to assist Sarawak Metro in accelerating the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project in Kota Samarahan.
Minos said in a statement that the Sarawak government wants Sarawak Metro to expedite the ART project and has asked the contractor for the traffic light projects along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway to assist.
“Many people have recently asked me and MPKS why two of the five traffic light projects along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway have yet to be completed. MPKS were told that there would be a slight delay in completion.
“The government wants Sarawak Metro to speed up its ART project in Kota Samarahan and so has requested the contractor for the traffic light projects to help out.
“MPKS fully understands and supports the decision. MPKS too wants the ART project to be done and completed soon,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that if the traffic light projects are completed by the end of this year and the ART project is completed by the end of 2025, MPKS will be proud of having the very first ART in Sarawak, which will be a cause for celebration given the convenience it will bring to all in Kota Samarahan and the general public.
“With many large public and private sector projects coming up in Kota Samarahan in the coming years that are public knowledge, it is a busy and exciting time for MPKS and all of us in this fast-growing town.
“That is why we really want the ART to be done and completed, along with the traffic light projects the sooner the better.
“A second wave of development awaits us all in Kota Samarahan, which is certainly cause for jubilation,” Minos added. — DayakDaily
