SIBU, Feb 22: Social Security Organisation (Socso) Sibu has opened a mobile counter at the Sibu Central Market for self-employed individuals to register under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme.

Socso Sibu in a statement today said the counter on Level 1 of the market is available tomorrow and from March 1 to 3 from 9am to 12noon.

The scheme offers protection for individuals who carry out self-employment activities to earn a living. This coverage includes occupational accidents, occupational diseases and accidents while carrying
out occupational activities.

Only 20 per cent or RM46.60 must be paid by self-employed persons (OBS) to qualify for the benefits provided under this programme.

“Several Self-Employment Scheme programmes under the Contribution Matching Scheme for several sectors have been made available to all,” Socso Sibu said.

The categories include self-employed women in just under 20 sectors, Orang Asli and Orang Asal Sabah and Sarawak who are self-employed (Iban/Bidayuh/Melanau/Orang Ulu), individuals in the gig economy that uses digital applications through intermediary companies, hawkers, people with disabilities who are self-employed, tourism sector, artists and all classes under the arts sector and those in the agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries sectors including aquaculture.

In line with this effort, Socso Sibu will also set up a mobile counter to facilitate the registration of contributors under the i-Saraan and Kasih Suri Keluarga Malaysia Scheme-EPF.

i-Saraan is a retirement savings scheme with voluntary contributions that allows self-employed members without a fixed income as well as gig economy workers to receive special incentives through voluntary contributions for retirement purposes.

The Kasih Suri Keluarga Malaysia Scheme-EPF allows for voluntary contributions for retirement purposes for housewives who are registered under e-Kasih.

Socso Sibu added that the same activities will also be held at Pasar Tamu Selangau on March 1 and Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya on March 2.
