KUCHING, Jan 14: A proposal has been forwarded to hold an international blues music festival at the Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak (Redeems) Centre in Singai this year.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep said he had received a proposal to organise the festival to provide exposure as well as develop the area.

“If there is the World Rainforest Music Festival in Sarawak Cultural Village, Jazz Festival in Miri and Grand Margherita Kuching, and Country Music Festival in Siniawan, then in Singai, we will hold a blues music festival,” he said when officiating at the Dayung Sikora Redeems competition here on Friday (Jan 13).

Henry added he would try to gather individuals who could help promote the idea of organising this festival.

“Therefore, as a start, I will allocate RM100,000 so that we can start planning to ensure that we can continue to use this place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Henry also approved allocations of RM100,000 each for two Redeems events, namely the Gawai Bani and the 25th-anniversary celebration. — DayakDaily
