KUCHING, Jan 14: Kuching South’s first smart closed-circuit television (CCTV) is currently being installed at Central Park Commercial Centre near the Sungai Maong police station.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the installation process is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

“And hopefully, beginning February, it can be ready for operations. By then, we will invite the press to see the entire operation,” he said.

He said the project is implemented together with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) under the federal government-funded ‘Bandar Selamat’ (Safe City) initiative.

“This is the very first (smart CCTV), but surely others will follow. I want to see how effective the system is and how HD (high-definition) the pictures are.

“I was told that the smart CCTV could read car plate numbers in HD,” he said during his weekly ShallWeeTalk Facebook live stream today.

Wee explained that the location at Central Park was chosen because it is known to be one of the police’s black zones. — DayakDaily
