KUCHING, Feb 16: Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi has reiterated his vow to continue advocating for the voice of the people—particularly those in the rural areas—following his re-election as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president.
Speaking to reporters during an interview at the PBB’s 16th triennial general meeting (TGM) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today, Julaihi said he wanted those in the rural areas to be able to participate in Sarawak’s development.
“I’m from the rural area—I was born there, I grew up there, and I represent the rural area, especially coastal areas,” he said.
Julaihi, who is also the Minister for Utility and Telecommunication for Sarawak, said his ministry plans to familiarise rural folk with digital economy through the updated version of the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN), providing enhanced facilities for local communities particularly in rural areas.
He further explained that the Sarawak government had allocated RM2.3 billion to develop the telecommunication programme, including the construction of 618 towers across the State.
Meanwhile, on him retaining his vice president post in PBB, Julaihi said he valued the mandate given to him by party members.
“PBB is a big family, and democracy is very much alive in PBB. Thank you very much,” he said.
PBB has four vice president posts, which sees Julaihi standing side-by-side with Deputy Minister of Education and Innovation Sarawak Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who retained his position and two new faces—backbencher Datuk Ibrahim Baki and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak Datuk Len Talif.
Julaihi secured 900 votes—second to Ibrahim with 910 votes—while Dr Annuar and Len gathered 788 and 687 votes, respectively. — DayakDaily
