KUCHING, Nov 18:  Bukit Aman Inspector General of Police Secretariat chief (Research and Development) Datuk Ramli Din will take over the duty as Sarawak Police Commissioner from Datuk Azman Yusof effective Dec 2.

The handing over of duty, however, was carried out today.  It was witnessed by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Datuk Zamri Yahya today.

Meanwhile, the outgoing CP Azman reported that crime index for 11 districts in Sarawak has increased this year, as compared to the same period of 2018.

As of Oct 31, Marudi recorded the highest jump of 106 per cent, followed by Kanowit (78), Simunjan (45), Meradong (41), Saratok (37), Sibu (35), Sarikei (13), Matu Daro (11), Kapit (11), Bau (5) and Sri Aman (4).

Azman added that violent crimes have also gone up by 3.9 percent with 713 cases reported as compared to 686 cases in 2018.  They include armed robbery (2), murder (3), rape (9) and unarmed robbery (31) cases.

On narcotics, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases this year with 637 arrests as compared to 474 in 2018.

As for commercial crime, Azman said there has been a decrease of 23.6 percent from 1,235 cases as of Oct this year, as compared to 1,616 cases in 2018. — DayakDaily
