KUCHING, Dec 21: The Sarawak crime index recorded a one percent increase from January to December 2023, with 90 percent of cases cleared, according to Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata.

In a TVS news report, he assured the public that overall, the crime index in Sarawak is under control.

“Continuous efforts must be continued in an integrated manner to control the situation, either in terms of security or threats and also narcotics criminal activities,” Mancha stated during a press briefing after a courtesy call to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

This visit marked Mancha’s first courtesy call to the Sarawak Premier since assuming the role of Sarawak Police Commissioner on Nov 13, succeeding Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, who moved to Bukit Aman to become the Director of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).

During the courtesy visit, discussions included the need to improve security aspects in land and sea border areas.
