KUCHING, June 17: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will be organising a rabies vaccination and microchipping programme on July 1 at the council’s Community Hall in Jalan Padungan here from 9am to 4pm.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is encouraging all petnowners to prepare and bring their pet dogs for their annual vaccinations.
“Additionally, there will be free microchipping for the animals.
“It is reminded that pet animals, especially dogs, should receive their vaccination against rabies on an annual basis,” he shared during his ShallWeeTalk live session with the community today.
Wee expressed relief that there were no animal or dog bite cases reported in areas under MBKS’ jurisdiction this week.
“I hope this positive trend will continue to ensure the control and prevention of rabies,” he said.
Wee once again called for public cooperation, specifically urging pet owners to keep their pets in their house compounds and prevent dogs from pooping in public areas.
Sharing a personal incident where his mother was almost bitten by a dog when taking her out for a walk last week, Wee reminded that everyone is exposed to the potential risks of being bitten by dog.
He added that it is the responsibility of pet owners and citizens to address this issue. — DayakDaily
