KUCHING, Feb 14: One suspected rabid dog involved in nine bite cases near Jalan Chawan-Jalan Wan Alwi here since Monday (Feb 12) has been caught yesterday afternoon (Feb 13).
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said his team has send the blood sample to the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) to conduct a rabies test.
“There is another dog on the loose and we are still searching for it.
“This morning, we have been around the whole area (to locate the suspected dog),” he told reporters during a lion dance performance at India Street here today.
He also disclosed that MBKS will enhance vaccination programmes from twice per year to four.
“At the moment, we are trying to look at the location that we are going to do (the vaccinations) and then we will also assist in doing the neutering for the dogs and cats.
“We are working with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) like Sarawak Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (SSPCA).
“We are trying to do our best but the city council can only do that much. The public itself need to give us full support and cooperation so that it can work much better,” he added.
Also present were Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman and MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili. — DayakDaily
